3 things nobody tells you about birth

I'm sure you've heard all the stories from friends and family about birth and postpartum. 'It was soooooo long', 'it was SO painful', 'having a c-section was the worst' etc etc.

Well I'm going to share the things I didn't know because nobody told me the good stuff.

  1. The first few hours after giving birth you're body produces an abundance of the bodys natural feel good hormnone oxytocin and for some people it is the most cozy, loving, intimate, squishy time that I wouldn't trade for ANYTHING!!!!!

  2. The feeling of amazement that comes with creating and birthing a human (regardless of how that baby is born) is one of the most precious parts of the human experience and nobody can ever take that feeling away. I am still so proud of myself for doing that work.

  3. When you have the right support team you can feel safe and empowered to let your body do one of the things it was built for! Having the right people around you will give you a level of trust in yourself AND them that you didn't know was possible.

It is so easy to get wrapped up in the crappy birth stories that are passed down generation to generation or friend to friend etc but there really are great birth stories out there too and I think it's more important to talk about how amazing birth can be if we let it.

We have allowed our culture to highly medicalize a process that is part of who we naturally are as a species and have forgotten that there are REALLY wonderful things about birth (aside from having a baby after all the hard work) that we just aren't talking about.

If you're reading this and you are someone who has given birth, I would LOVE to hear some of the good things that have come out of it for you.
